On the occasion of the III Global Hand Hygiene Day held on May 5 2011 within the framework of the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands initiative of the World Health Organization, the coordinating group of the Hand Hygiene Program of the Spanish National Health System, made up of representatives from all the Health Regions of Spain and the Quality Agency, organized a Call for Ideas regarding the possible awareness-raising actions that could be implemented to celebrate the day.
The regional evaluation committees of each Health Region selected a maximum of 3 candidates from the proposals submitted by their centers. A total of 37 ideas where shortlisted for the finals and evaluated by the representatives of the Health Regions in the coordinating group of the Hand Hygiene Program according to previously agreed criteria.
