NEUMONIA ZERO PROJECT PDF Print E-mail

Using the structure created by the Bacteremia Zero Project, we propose to apply a set of recommendations to prevent Ventilator-Associated Pneumonias (VAPs) and reinforce the procedures in place to monitor the integrated safety measures package now used in Spanish ICUs.

Main objective:

Decrease the average national incidence density rate (ID) of VAPs to less than 9 episodes per 1000 days of mechanical ventilation. This represents a 40% decrease of the average rate of incidence recorded for 2000-2008 in the Spanish ICUs and a 25% reduction compared with 2009-2010.

Secondary objectives:

  • Promote and improve a culture of safety in the Intensive Care Units of the National Health System.
  • Maintain and reinforce the network of ICUs that implement safety practices of proven efficacy.
