Research in patient safety is key to enhancing the knowledge of the factors involved in healthcare-related errors and adverse effects being caused and prevented.

The research objectives of the PS strategy are:

• Promote and finance PS studies in the NHS.
• The active involvement of the healthcare organizations, the scientific societies and the patients
• Disseminate the findings.
• Promote sharing of experiences at the national and international levels.

The PS strategy takes in both the funding of lines in the official public calls for projects as well as the specific projects which are in keeping with the objectives set out in the strategy.
